Recent developments in statistical and machine learning approaches have dramatically changed the landscape of several research fields. This course is a hands-on class where students will learn the skills that are required to manage and make sense of large, complex datasets and to perform reproducible, transparent analyses and modelling experiments. Instead of trying to design a class ‘one-size-fit-all’, this class will provide training material adapted to each student based on their initial training and future career goals. The course will rely on the platform datacamp.com, which provides online classes and exercises to learn data science. One of the drawback of online learning, however, is that students may feel demotivated, they may procrastinate or have issues selecting the material that suits their needs. Recent research has indeed note that completion rate is very low for moocs. The course will aim to help students overcome these obstacles : students will complete their weekly assignments in the classroom with the help of the tutor and their peers. By the end of this class, students will be asked to apply these new acquired skills on their own dataset.
