This course explores the geographical dimensions of international migration, examining at various scales the spatial patterns, processes, and consequences of human mobility across borders. Drawing on human, political and social geography, the course will critically engage with key themes such as globalization and mobility, borders and border regimes, diaspora and transnationalism, migration governance, and the socio-spatial impacts of migration on both sending and receiving regions. The course also examines how migration is shaped by and shapes gender, race, class, and citizenship, with attention to the production of migrant subjectivities and the role of state and non-state actors. Through lectures, reading (in french AND english), case studies, students will gain a nuanced understanding of migration as a deeply geographical process, embedded in power relations and scalar processes.
