Le présent séminaire sera consacré aux phénomènes de la négation dans une perspective linguistique théorique, comparative et typologique afin d’approfondir notre compréhension de la nature et du fonctionnement des différents mécanismes morphologiques, syntaxiques, sémantiques et pragmatiques de ce phénomène cognitif et linguistique universel et complexe. Seront examinées la négation standard ainsi que la négation existentielle et prohibitive. Il sera aussi question de s’interroger sur certaines perspectives diachroniques connues, telles celles de « Jespersen Cycle » et de « Negative Existential Cycle ».
The present research seminar is dedicated this year to the study of negation from a theoretical, comparative, and typological linguistic perspective in order to deepen our understanding of the nature and functioning of the different morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic mechanisms of this cognitively and linguistically universal and complex phenomenon. Standard negation as well as existential and prohibitive negation will be examined. The seminar will also debate certain well-known diachronic takes on negation, such as the "Jespersen Cycle" and the "Negative Existential Cycle".
